About us

The Clemson Intercollegiate Eventing Team was founded in 2004 by Laurie (Brown) Mays and Tanya (Bruce) Thomas. Now, we are beginning our fifteenth year as a club in the fall of 2019! We currently have a total of about 40 team members. The team ranges from riders who have never evented before to those who regularly compete at the tadpole to the one star level. We actively fundraise by hosting local bi-annual combined tests, selling merchandise, and much more! These fundraisers allow the team to provide clinics for our members, decrease show rates for collegiate challenges, and embark on a team trip to the Kentucky Three Day Event. We currently host at least two clinics a semester, focusing on both dressage and jumping. Our past clinicians include Allison Springer, Bonnie Mosser, Jodi Hemry, Buck Davidson, Laurens Bissell, and Jodi Lees. While there is not a main coach for the team, members are encouraged to ride with trainers of their choice, and riders often travel together to attend lessons.

Clemson’s great location offers a variety of gorgeous boarding facilities. We mainly compete in Areas II and III, as we are located just a few hours from Aiken, Atlanta, Tryon, and Southern Pines. We compete in teams at recognized collegiate challenges throughout the school year. If you do not currently have a horse, you are welcome to join the team as a nonriding member and still be involved with fundraisers, traveling to shows, and the overall camaraderie of our team.
